Although physically demanding, the job is varied, involves collecting environmental samples and data from rivers, discharges, boreholes, groundwater sources and coastal waters. You will support the team with fish surveys which may involve some boat work. You will work alone for the majority of the time but part of a supportive team.
We will train you to collect samples and data using relevant equipment and entering data on smart phone or tablet technology, whilst also ensuring our site information records are accurate.
The job will involve driving, lifting and carrying samples and equipment, working in and near water. You will need to follow operational guidance and adhere to current Health and Safety procedures.
Visibly representing the Environment Agency your professional approach with the public and customers is important.
There will also be opportunity to support the Environment Agency’s Incident response
We collect field based samples and environmental data for both local, national and statutory requirements. The data collected provides key information for multiple teams working across the Environment Agency to serve diverse community and environmental needs.
The West Anglia Field Monitoring Teams are dispersed and cover Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Northampton, Norfolk, and parts of Buckinghamshire.
This is a field based role and requires extensive driving in urban and rural locations
We’re seeking candidates who are happy to work in all weathers and environments. Full on the job training and support will be provided by your team.
A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
Other key requirements for this job include
• basic computer literacy
• working with smartphone technology
• attention to detail,
• orderly and good at following set instructions
• reliable and able to work on your own as well as part of the wider team
• navigational skills – the ability to find your way around urban and rural areas.
• comfortable driving a van
• comfortable working in and near water
An environmental background is not essential.
The working hours for this role are 37 per week Monday to Friday. We welcome flexible working patterns so please include clearly any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.
The base location for these roles will be Kings Lynn & Kettering where you will be required to pick up equipment and drop off samples most days. The majority of the time however you will be outside collecting data from different locations across the team territory.
