We are looking for an enthusiastic & versatile person to join our team as an Environmental Monitoring Officer focussing on the water quality side of our workload in Kent, South London & East Sussex area. This is an ideal development opportunity for anyone seeking a career in environmental or riverine management who has some experience of water chemistry/quality issues. The role will include multifunctional data analysis, interpretation and reporting of our environmental monitoring datasets using both standard and bespoke computer applications. We are looking for someone who can contribute to the delivery of our environmental monitoring and investigations programme, so there may also be an opportunity to participate in some of our water quality field investigations involving deployment of continuous monitoring equipment. An important part of the role will also involve responding to information requests to supply our data to both internal and external customers.
Our Analysis & Reporting team is responsible for ensuring water quality, ecology and fishery monitoring programmes collect the evidence we need to support and inform a variety of legislative, national and local requirements. We deliver high quality multifunctional investigations and reports on both water quality and water resources issues. We are a highly motivated experienced team covering the whole of Kent, South London & East Sussex with its strong mix of urban and rural catchments.
You will need a good understanding of environmental regulation and the pressures & impacts on water quality. With a degree in an environmental subject (or equivalent), you will be able to demonstrate a good knowledge and experience of water quality monitoring including the analysis & interpretation of resulting datasets, using your technical knowledge and judgement to identify environmental issues. You will need an investigative nature and an ability to make decisions and inferences based on evidence.

You will have strong communication skills with an ability to translate technical issues for a wider audience as well as providing advice & support to other teams on complex issues relating to water quality.

Other skills include :

• ability to work individually and as part of a team
• ability to use your initiative & manage complex workloads to tight deadlines
• an interest in GIS and mapping would also be very useful
The role is predominantly office based with occasional meetings at other locations. You would be expected to work primarily from Orchard House, Addington (near Maidstone) where the team is based.
