You will work across the Wessex Area with the Catchment Engineer, Asset Performance teams, MEICA, Field Teams and Operations Managers to help strengthen engineering delivery, skills and resilience across Operations.

You will contribute to the management of the Area’s Strategically Important Assets and Reservoirs providing guidance and support. You will also assist with the monitoring, resolution and contingency measures of below required condition assets. You will also support the Asset Performance teams in our bridge management obligations, CDM duties and risk management assurance through approval and active monitoring.

You will work with the teams to technically assure an evidence-based asset investment programme that extends beyond our current six-year investment plan. Tasks will include linking with our project senior users on project level engineering decisions.

You will co-ordinate and support the training and exercising, with framework supply chain and Field Teams, to provide operational action plans.
In the role you will encourage, coach and mentor less experienced members of the department to help develop the next generation of engineers for the Area. This role provides a great opportunity to work on range of key projects, as you help us to continue protecting people and property in flood risk areas.
In FCRM Operations we inspect, maintain and operate Environment Agency assets to manage flood risk and provide wider environmental benefits. We manage our assets so that they perform when needed to improve community resilience. As asset owners and intelligent clients, we work with our internal teams and suppliers to steer their delivery of asset improvements and ensure that our investment delivers our ambition to be a world class asset management organisation.
We are seeking someone with passion and commitment to Engineering within Flood Risk Management. You’ll be comfortable working independently or as part of a team and will periodically deputise for the Area Catchment Engineer at local or national meetings.
Must haves:

• Engineering qualification and practical experience, hold (or actively working towards) Incorporated / Chartered Member Status recognised by the Engineering Council
• Flood Risk Management Knowledge
• Strong Communication Skills and Great Customer Focus
• Health, Safety & Environmental experience
• Practical experience in managing assets, ideally within the flood risk sector
• Contract Management experience within the construction sector

Effective communication skills are essential, and you’re skilled at managing multiple priorities. You’ll be an intelligent problem solver, with a methodical work approach. Leading evidence-based decisions and coaching others will come naturally. You'll be organised with attention to detail to ensure our work is delivered to high standards.
