The role draws upon a diverse range of skills. Working closely with other teams, you will be involved in:

• Ensuring that engineering projects are environmentally compliant
• Screening, planning and co-ordinating the delivery of EIAs
• Working with a variety of environmental stakeholders
• Identifying environmental opportunities and delivering multiple benefits
• Working with external suppliers and other Environment Agency specialists within integrated project teams
NEAS work in integrated project teams, managing or supporting the delivery of environmental impact assessments or strategic environmental assessments. We use the environmental assessment process to improve the sustainability of our planning and designs. NEAS officers are skilled in working with a wide range of stakeholders and bringing together a range of expert views.
You'll have excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external partners. It is advantageous to have project management skills too.
You must have an environmental background and a relevant degree (or equivalent) and are working towards a relevant professional qualification such as Associate or Practitioner IEMA. You will also:
• be able to show where you’ve worked with others to deliver environmental success
• have experience reviewing statutory environmental statements, and SEAs and co-ordination of statutory EIA
• be able to demonstrate a good understanding of different technical areas of expertise, such as habitats regulations, planning or environmental design
• have obtained or be working towards Full or Chartered Membership of your professional institution (e.g. IEMA or CIWEM).

This is a one year fixed term contract post based at our Exeter office.

You will need to hold a full UK driving licence. The role requires some travel and overnight stays.

Legislative Knowledge
Has a broad understanding of environmental legislation relevant to development projects, including UK EIA process, legislation and standards and the wider regulatory regime. Able to screen projects for EIA and advise on basic environmental compliance.
A full clean UK driving licence
Candidates should have obtained or be working towards Full or Chartered Membership of their professional institution (e.g. IEMA or CIWEM).
