ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR ENVIRONMENT AND MAKING IT BETTER FOR COMMUNITIES AND WILDLIFE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.... WE ARE!

The Environment Agency is a non-departmental public body, established in 1995 and sponsored by the United Kingdom government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), with responsibilities relating to the protection and enhancement of the environment in England.
What will you be doing?

As an Environment Officer, you will play a critical frontline role protecting the environment across the West Midlands. You will help to create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment for people and wildlife, dealing with a wide range of environmental issues from permitted and illegal waste sites to rivers, waterways and farms ensuring all activity happens without harm to people, wildlife or the environment. Sometimes this will mean taking tough decisions, include investigation and prosecution. You’ll need to have the confidence to handle these situations at every step of the process from frontline contact to giving evidence in the courtroom.

The work is varied, vital and, at times, challenging but you will be supported, receive comprehensive training and work with some of the country’s leading experts.

You will need a full driving licence.
Closing: 30th September 23:55hrs

You will be based in one of our area offices in an operational team focusing on either Land & Water or Waste issues. In the Waste team you will focus on operators and companies in the waste sector. In the Land & Water team you’ll focus on water quality, agriculture and water resources.

Both teams have responsibilities that involve working outdoors and indoors. They also respond to environmental emergencies and incidents.
We are flexible about the experience you have. You may be a new graduate or be experienced in regulation or dealing with difficult situations. Whatever your background, you’ll be interested in the environment, making a difference and using environmental regulation, even if this sometimes means dealing with confrontation.
What’s important is you demonstrate the right behaviours to join our team. We have a work culture we are extremely proud of and therefore it is important to have the right people to join us.
We are looking for people who can show us they
• are organised
• can handle confrontation
• are confident and assertive
• can adapt their communication style
• can build positive relationships
• are a team player
• are I.T savvy
• are accurate and detailed
• enjoy working outside throughout the year
• are passionate about the environment
