This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in the delivery of our environmental monitoring programme. Monitoring is at the heart of Environment Agency decision making, providing an operational basis for science-based decisions and Monitoring Programme & Technical Services (MPTS) is in the centre of this monitoring community.
Natural Capital Ecosystems Assessment (NCEA) is an expansive and longsighted set of monitoring programmes to assess the state of our environment. This specialist role in MPTS will help make the NCEA network designs an operational reality.
The successful candidate will:
*have a passion for monitoring the natural environment;
*have good interpersonal, team working and communication skills;
*have an eye for detail and the ability to produce accurate work;
*have good numeracy skills;
*have good organisational and planning skills and the ability to work to deadlines under pressure;
*be supported in using their own initiative.
This role focusses on operational delivery, taking the NCEA monitoring network designs and turning them into an integrated, efficient and deliverable programme.
Examples of day-to-day duties are:
*working with the our Work Package lead to provide technical subject matter expertise to the NCEA programme and delivery teams;
*working with national and Area colleagues to investigate and implement novel monitoring and assessment techniques, providing associated training where required;
*creating, optimising and managing the site-by-site detail for the various monitoring networks;
*ensuring delivery of these networks.
The successful applicant will need the flexibility to cover other aspect of work within MPTS’s remit as required.
This role is not field-based, but you will be supported to get out with field delivery teams as much as possible.

You’ll be joining the friendly Monitoring Programme and Technical Services team. We are a dispersed team with a strong team identity. We support the delivery of the full range of monitoring programmes and activities, covering; habitat, fish and plant surveys, invertebrates and water quality in all water categories (rivers, lakes, estuaries, coasts and groundwater).

The post is office based with flexible working and location. Some travel will be required (to attend meetings, training, etc). This role is advertised as full-time, but we are open to other working arrangements.
