As a Specialist Team Member you’ll help plan, coordinate and manage the delivery of our flood asset management programme and emergency response work. This is a vital role that is key to maintaining the West Midlands’ flood resilience.

Responsibilities include:

Ensuring that programmed works are delivered within budget and published timelines, managing contractors as needed.

Active monitoring to ensure works are being completed safely as planned, motivating staff when needed.

Provide leadership on Health & Safety and Wellbeing, ensuring that delivery work is being conducted safely and sites comply with our policies.

You will be a Category 1 Responder during instances of flooding and other environmental incidents. You will help lead our operational response to flood and environment incidents by participating, and training in an incident role. You’ll identify, organise, and coordinate training to test our incident response plans. This will include communicating with customers, landowners, partners and members of the public. As part of our incident response, you will be on a standby rota that will attract additional standby payments.
Operational Field teams protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our flood and coastal risk management assets. They have a range of technical skills and deliver watercourse maintenance, along with asset maintenance and construction projects, often using specialist equipment.

They play a key role in the prevention and mitigation of environmental incidents day and night.

You will be based at Gloucester with some opportunity to work from home.

You will be able to demonstrate the following:

Excellent leadership and a passion for motivating teams.

Experience of managing contractors and working with external partners.

Experience of delivering work by planning, tracking and maintaining data/information.

Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and demands

Excellent communication skills

Confidence in using IT is essential as well as a willingness to learn the use of our inhouse systems

An understanding of Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 would be beneficial.

An enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Interest/study in engineering or a scientific discipline would also be beneficial.

All the necessary training to undertake the role will be provided including externally recognised qualifications.
There is an expectation that you will live within 45 minutes’ drive of the depot and have a full driving licence. A vehicle will be made available for you to travel to site and when on call. Full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be available.

This role will involve mixture of desk-based work and being out on sites. Therefore, you will need to be comfortable with working outdoors.

The Specialist Team Member needs to work with the Team Leader, schedule the team’s work, and produce accurate and appropriate documentation (including site packs) within our bespoke IT packages, to enable work to be carried out on site.
