We are looking for an experienced environmental regulator to work across the West Midlands. You will be part of the area leadership team, ensuring the waste industry complies with permit conditions and other legal requirements to protect the local environment and communities. You will work with our teams of Environment Officers using evidence, intelligence and management information to set work priorities, monitor performance and ensure delivery against targets. You will be expected to show technical leadership, taking a lead on key areas, providing advice and guidance to both internal and external customers, and coaching and developing our staff.

You will oversee a range of technical compliance activities, including auditing, across a number of waste sectors. In particular, you will use your influencing and negotiating skills to ensure improved compliance at our poor performing sites. You will lead on planning our work to ensure we meet our key measures and prioritise our activities based on risk and the desired environmental outcomes.

The successful candidate will lead on key sectors, keeping up to date with changing legislation/best practice, providing specialist guidance to operational teams and customers.

You will be expected to have an incident response role and take part in operational rotas.
We have 5 waste teams delivering waste regulation across a diverse area including the industrialised West Midlands conurbation. Teams work in geographical areas with a strong emphasis on working as one team to deliver priorities and outcomes. These include;
• Achieving compliance at poor performing sites;
• Reducing the number of high risk fire sites;
• Providing incident management response;
• Non site based regulation of hazardous waste, Carrier, Broker Dealers and Duty of Care.
We are looking for a passionate and driven person who is;

- Proactive, self-motivated and a confident communicator, used to influencing and negotiating to deliver environmental compliance and outcomes;
- Experienced in delivering environmental compliance and outcomes in accordance with a relevant legislative regime;
- Able to demonstrate practical operational experience and knowledge of environmental regulation;
- Experienced in delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools.
- Able to demonstrate experience of coaching and mentoring others;
- Able to demonstrate a broad range of waste technical knowledge, together with strong interpersonal and team-working skills;
- Able to work as part of a team, sharing skills and experience to deliver the best outcomes for the environment.

A full UK driving licence is essential and a lease car is provided.
The role is based at either our Kidderminster or Tewkesbury office. Hours of work: 37 per week.
