This senior position sits in Programme & Contract Management (PCM) and manages team members who project manage the delivery of exciting, innovative projects that include studies and schemes that ultimately aim to reduce the risk of flooding to communities and enhance the environment.

The role holder will be responsible for line management of a technical team; recruitment including resource planning, onboarding of new staff & inductions; training, coaching and mentoring; programme managing a portfolio of work as Area Lead; and trouble-shooting and escalating project issues that project teams cannot resolve themselves.

You will have the ability to build a great working environment to bring the best out of high performing teams, encouraging your team to work collaboratively and effectively with their customers and partners. You will support your team with project, contract and risk management decisions. You will organise and provide training for new starters and existing team members.

You’ll use your interpersonal skills to build and develop a resilient network of working relationships with other team leaders across the organisation, facilitating smooth working for your team’s projects. You will oversee a portion of the programme, your portfolio, and track performance, putting in measures to rectify as and when needed.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
South East PCM is led by a Delivery Manager overseeing between 70-120 staff, supported by Programme Specialists, Programme Managers and Project Team Managers (PTM). Each PTM manages 8-15 Project Executives, Project Managers and Project Support Officers who manage the day-to-day delivery of projects within our flood & coastal erosion risk management programme using our framework suppliers. Other internal roles forming part of our integrated delivery teams include commercial, environmental, asset managers, financial, estates, and legal.
· A degree or equivalent in a related field, ideally with chartered membership of a professional body such as APMP, CIWEM, ICE or a management institute.

· Have undertaken training in project, contract, HR or business management.

· Some technical knowledge would be useful to manage a technical team who will be overseeing delivery of hydrology, river modelling, feasibility assessment, asset management, business case development, cost monitoring/forecasting, scope preparation, CDM, engineering design and construction.

· Significant experience in a people management, project, and/or contract management environment. An engineering, construction and/or flood & coastal risk management is desirable not essential.

· A track record for delivering results in challenging projects/circumstances through coordination of a technical team will need to be demonstrated.

· Ability to mentor and support your teams in the delivery of their work.

· Strong interpersonal and influencing skills as relationship management of both internal and external stakeholders.

The role may require travel to project sites and project team meetings. Overnight stays may occasionally be necessary.
