We’re looking for an individual with strong technical and platform management skills, to join our Data and Systems department. You will help us meet an ever increasing demand on our data and the associated services. Our aim is to manage our data and platforms in a consistent way ensuring all staff can easily use high quality data and information that will support insight-driven decision making, our environmental outcomes and our reputation.

Working as part of a dynamic professional team you will help us to provide technical support and assurance for our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, platforms, tools and data.

Day to day you will help us to optimise performance, troubleshoot issues, develop and maintain our processes and documentation. You will help drive continuous improvement, share knowledge by coaching others and provide business support with a focus on our technical infrastructure. You will work with our suppliers, IT leads at Defra, and business leads as well as the wider Data and Systems teams. This will help us to maximise the reuse of our existing services, strengthen and advance our use of spatial data and tools as well as ensuring we meet our service targets, while helping deliver our environmental outcomes.
This post is in the National GIS team, within Data & Systems as part of the Flood and Coastal Risk Management Directorate. This team provides leadership and cross-cutting support to all Environment Agency users of spatial data and information. It is a centre of excellence for spatial data management and the application of GIS technologies. They run GIS services to support the business outcomes and help set the corporate direction for Geographic Information.
You will have a technical background in platform management and configuration, good data and information management experience and can demonstrate a strong background with GIS. As well as the standard Microsoft packages your will be able to demonstrate you have skills in the ESRI suite of products including: AGOL, Enterprise, ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Desktop. A working knowledge of spatial ETL tools such as FME, software such as Python and server architecture would be an advantage. You will be able to work effectively as a part of a bigger team and have good communication skills to help your engagement with both technical and non-technical audiences.
