Due to the retirement of the previous post holder an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Environment Agency's Waterways Team as a River Inspector covering our navigable rivers in Lincolnshire & Northamptonshire. Basic duties will involve patrols on a set reach of waterway including day to day assistance to visiting boaters, inspection of locks, moorings and other navigation facilities, and enforcement of registration legislation and byelaws. Your working hours will be 37 hours per week and you will also from time to time be expected to work some weekends, evenings and bank holidays as part of our 24/7 year round Waterways Duty Officer roster. At times you will be asked to work across river catchments. Full training, a badged vehicle, uniform and safety equipment are provided to enable you to work within our Health and Safety Policy.
The Lincolnshire & Northamptonshire Waterways Operations Team is a small team comprising of 5 permanent staff plus 3 seasonal staff. We cover an area from South Humberside to Northampton and Wisbech.
The successful candidate will have sound knowledge over a range of waterway issues including operational practices and a high level of interpersonal skills to deal with a wide range of customers and organisations. Well developed organisational skills to prioritise your workload appropriately are also vital to this role. You must have a practical knowledge of boating and other relevant activities, and be able to demonstrate a good standard of computer literacy.
