You’ll be part of a great team working on our regulatory work as well as developing new flood risk management projects for a future programme of works which will reduce flood risk to 300,000 homes across the UK.
This role is extremely varied and draws upon a range of transferrable and specialist skills. Working closely with other teams and organisations, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:
• Collection, analysis and interpretation of data including flood risk mapping
• Applying flood risk management knowledge to support the planning and programming of flood risk projects
• Managing a workload of more complex Environmental Permits and Planning Applications
• Engaging with communities, residents and businesses
• Training and mentoring other staff
• Developing specialist flood risk knowledge of the South Humber and East Coast patch
• Taking part in incident management when flooding occurs

Partnership and Strategic Overview Team (PSO) work with all Risk Management Authorities and communities to design, develop, fund and deliver flood risk management assets to reduce flood risk to communities. We compile, manage and use the best available evidence through our mapping, modelling and data work to inform our long term plans and investment programme. PSO provide advice on Flood Risk Assessments for development proposals and issue Flood Risk Activity Permits.
Through your experience you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:
• Have an engineering / science background or a relevant degree / professional qualification
• Apply a project management approach to manage multiple priorities and competing demands
• Be able to show where you’ve worked with others to deliver success
• Be an intelligent problem solver, with a methodical work approach linked to managing risk
• Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
• An ability to demonstrate applied Geographic Information Systems skills is essential
• Experience of working within and knowledge of flood risk management is desirable
• Knowledge of relevant legislation associated with Flood Risk Planning and Permitting work stream is desirable
It would be advantageous to hold a Full UK driving licence.

PSO teams identify locations at risk of flooding and evaluate the level of risk and make recommendations to minimise the risk of flooding.

Please share with us your knowledge/experience pertaining to flood risk or other similar technical matter. Please include how you have assessed the different types of risk. We are also interested in how you have gone about enhancing and developing your technical knowledge.
