This role involves carrying out monitoring, survey work and data collection to support the area environmental monitoring programme.
You will collect a range of samples from rivers, discharge points and other sites from multiple locations. You will work frequently on your own but will sometimes work in a team to complete survey work and will liaise regularly with your team, colleagues in other Environment Agency teams as well as external customers.
This is a practical post and most of your time will be spent in the field but you will also provide support in the office.
You will need to demonstrate experience of both team working and working on your own initiative in order to remain safe, healthy and well. You will require experience of handling data, information and basic IT skills, for example using hand held computers. You will need to be competent at following detailed instructions and have an eye for detail to maintain accuracy and high quality work.
Some weekend and bank holiday working may be required alongside a flexible working pattern.
The Sampling and Collection Team are responsible for the collection of samples for statutory requirements. We deliver work across a range of disciplines including Chemical, Ecology, Fisheries and Groundwater. The team provides key data for various other teams within the wider business. The data provides evidence for the investigation of failing bathing waters, compliance under the Environmental Permitting Regulations for discharges as well as providing core data for reporting and investigations.
The role is varied and requires a range of technical and practical skills and would interest someone who is both a team player and is comfortable with their own company. It requires good communication skills and problem solving abilities.

Having experience of working outdoors all year round would be an advantage as would being comfortable working in the sea and river environments.

This is a fixed term assignment for one year which we are seeking to start as soon as possible.

You will be provided with the equipment and vehicle necessary to undertake the role but you may be required to travel by your own methods to and from your office base at the start and end of the day.
