We are the Environment Agency. On an average year we respond to around 25,000 incidents from floods, to waste fires, droughts to water pollution, as well as a number of incidents that impact our on business continuity. We work with other response agencies and communities to reduce the impacts of incidents on the natural environment, human health or property.

Ensuring that our staff are fully prepared and our services give our customers and partners the very best information and advice, to respond well when it matters, is the role of the Incident Management and Resilience (IM&R) department within our National Operations Directorate.

If you’re passionate about incidents, full of ideas about how we could improve our response and good at making changes happen here’s your chance to put that into practice.
This post sits in the strategy and planning function. You’ll be developing strategies and policies for the future shape of our services and responses across all incidents we face.

You’ll directly work with Government to ensure that we help Defra to achieve its objective of ‘a nation better protected against floods, animal and plant diseases and other hazards’ and that our standards and approaches align with other civil contingency responders.
You’ll bring a range of skills and experience, in particular we’re looking for people with;

• A good understanding of incident management and the Environment Agency responsibilities as a Category 1 responder under the civil contingencies act.
• An ability to assimilate a range of information, using research and experiences from different fields, to develop new ideas and future strategies for a complex and multi-disciplined organisation.
• Ability to network and develop strong links with colleagues and external partners, keeping them informed and managing their expectations
• Great communication skills, particularly in written and presentation material
• Strong organisation skills for your own and others work, being able to re-prioritise and adapt your plans quickly.
Closing: 14/05/19 at 23:55 hours
Given the variety of roles we are advertising across the IM&R department, we suggest you call us to understand the different nature of each role. For this one please call Liz Anspoks on 07795 953024
Note: Interviews will take place mid to late May.
Although you can chose your base location from any of our main offices (subject to Facilities approval) the role will require some travel and occasional overnight stops, as the team are dispersed across the country.
You’ll be expected to undertake an incident management role which will, on occasion, require you to work outside of office hours, you’ll get a choice of role and support and training to do it.

Basic Check
Takes Decisions and Solves Problems
Often with an incident a new challenge will arise that we don't have a clear approach or tested solution for, it'll be your job to find the answer, among many, and ensure that it's the right one to follow.

When did you last encounter such a time, how did you decide the right solution to follow and what plans did you put in place to test it was the right one?

Please note: Your answer to this question will be used to assess your suitability for interview.
Focuses on Customers and Partners
Given the wide ranging impacts of incidents we manage, you'll need to ensure that the policies you develop meet many different needs and that the customer is in mind with everything we endeavour to improve and deliver.

Tell us about a time when you had to balance the differing needs of your stakeholders and customers. How did you ensure that you could meet them all, or manage expectations where this was impossible?
