You will be part of a small operational team providing national flood and coastal risk mapping and analytical services within the Environment Agency.

Planning and coordinating routine maintenance of our national flood risk mapping products, you'll oversee and support spatial data consolidation, processing and assurance; resulting in delivery of quarterly updates to the National Flood Risk Assessment, Flood Map for Planning and Risk of Flooding from Reservoirs products.

You'll also provide reporting, analysis and visualisation of flood risk data, providing crucial evidence to help us raise awareness of flood risk and identify opportunities to reduce the impacts of flooding in the future.

There may be opportunities to support senior colleagues as they develop processes and implement change in order to improve efficiency and meet evolving customer needs.

In order to achieve this you will need to build and sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation, providing technical guidance to operational teams and encouraging best practice in relation to geospatial data management. You'll also mentor and coach other members of the team, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to support the delivery of our business plan.

The successful candidate may also be asked to assume line management duties.
The Mapping and Analytics team is part of the Evidence and Risk Technical Services department in Incident Management & Resilience. We work in collaboration with local and national data custodians across the organisation to update national flood risk mapping, analyse complex spatial data and develop integrated mapping solutions. Our outputs help raise awareness of flood risk and enable us to adopt a strategic risk-based approach which underpins cost effective delivery of sustainable risk management.
You must have considerable experience of spatial database management using ArcGIS with strong analytical and problem solving skills and good attention to detail. Experience working with ArcPy and/or T-SQL scripts would be desirable but on the job training can be provided.

You’ll be familiar with the Environment Agency’s key flood risk mapping and modelling datasets. Knowledge of the systems used to manage these, together with the associated data lifecycles would be advantageous.

You’ll also be:
• a motivated individual that is able to work to tight deadlines, use your initiative and take responsibility for tasks;
• able to communicate technical information effectively;
• able to take decisions and develop appropriate solutions in order to solve problems and achieve desired results and outcomes;
• committed to efficiency, quality and innovation in all you do;
• customer focused with experience of dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
This is a fixed term contract / assignment until 31st December 2020.
You will be required to be located in the Bath office on all working days in order to access our specialist IT systems. We embrace technology to reduce the amount of travel but there may be a requirement for occasional travel to other locations to meet customers and colleagues from across the business.
