We’re looking for an experienced PPM professional to help us deliver our varied programme of improvements. This new role will take responsibility for key programme management functions including developing and managing the pipeline of future projects, driving our benefits management approach, programme risk management and programme board coordination. This is an exciting opportunity to influence and shape a new role within a new team and may suit a project manager looking to take a step into programme management, as well as someone who already works within a programme setting.
The Programmes Team manages the delivery of national, high risk, critical business change projects on behalf of the Incident Management & Resilience Directorate. It is a newly formed team, created from bringing together two existing programmes: ‘Major Incident Ready2’ and ‘Flood Incident Management’. Our projects include new digital services, new technology and tools, and ways of working projects.
The successful candidate is expected to have experience of delivering projects or working in a programme. You will know how to manage risks, engage positively with stakeholders and communicate effectively. You will have the ability, training and flexibility to juggle a varied workload and at different stages of delivery, and confidence to coach inexperienced project leads, when support is required. Experience of project benefits management is a bonus.

Strong project or programme management skills, financial awareness and attention to detail are essential. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You need be comfortable working to tight deadlines, using your initiative and prioritising and managing your own workload.

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating our programme boards, driving forward our work on benefit realisation with project managers and scrutinising and developing project bids on our pipeline. All these tasks require effective communication with stakeholders to achieve outcomes. Please tell us about a piece of work where you engaged with stakeholders in a variety of different ways. What was the task? What communication methods did you use, how were these tailored to the audience and how did you know your communication was effective?
