As an Estates Surveyor you’ll be an integral part of the Estates Service, working directly with other Estates team members across East Anglia. You’ll hold an RICS qualification (AssocRICS, MRICS or FRICS) with a background in rural estate management and/or experience of compulsory purchase matters.

In your role, you will be involved in a wide variety of surveying work. There will be the opportunity to get involved in the land and compensation elements of our flood alleviation projects. You will use and develop your negotiation & influencing skills to acquire land, and agree compensation claims.

As an Estates Surveyor in the Eastern Region, you will also be responsible for managing a diverse rural land portfolio, including tenanted holdings, to achieve our Corporate objectives. As well as managing our retained estate our surveyors buy land to facilitate our capital programme, sell land that is surplus to requirements and manage land we occupy as a tenant.

Working as an Estates Surveyor in the Environment Agency will mean that the environment will be at the heart of everything you do: your work will ensure that we maximise the benefit of our financial spend and drive forward positive environmental outcomes for our local communities.
The Estates service extends to 125 people, offering professional support for Environment Agency land, property, compensation and valuation matters. We are core to the delivery of the Agency's £5.2billion capital programme to better protect 360,000 homes.

Our experienced teams specialise in negotiating access, dealing with compensation claims from land and property owners where they have suffered loss as a consequence of our work. We also manage the Agency's landholdings, which extends to 26,000 hectares.
With experience of working as a Surveyor in a professional estates service, you’ll hold an appropriate RICS qualification (AssocRICS, MRICS and FRICS), and have relevant land and property experience.
You’ll be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
A good understanding of planning, property and compensation legislation and of compulsory purchase procedures.
Providing advice on land and compensation matters, minimising project risk and compensation liabilities. Negotiating access to land, securing appropriate interests and settling compensation claims.
Management of a diverse land and property portfolio including property management, valuation and landlord and tenant issues to provide sustainable land use and deliver best practice.
You’ll balance work to ensure that tasks are achieved and have good interpersonal skills to build networks and influence both internal and external customers/stakeholders and the effective resolution of issues. You should be able to identify and implement areas of best practice.
Ideally based in our Peterborough this role would support a degree of flexible working and we welcome applications from anywhere within the East of England.

Regular travel including site visits to some remote locations will be required. You'll be provided with a vehicle to carry out this work if required.
