This role will lead the Environment Agency’s work to find new ways of securing investment in the environment and to tackle climate change. It is an exciting time to work on funding and financing the environment, with opportunities in Green Finance, environmental markets and funding for a Green Recovery.

Leading an outstanding team of specialists, this role will shape the nation’s approach to funding and financing the environment. The team is developing a range of innovative funding mechanisms and is applying these to a range of environmental projects, from major flood resilience schemes to nature-based solutions. Your task will be to turn these funding and financing models into reality.

This is a high priority work area for the Environment Agency and the post-holder will need a mix of technical understanding, influencing skills and strategic vision to turn this exciting agenda into real investments in the environment.
The role is part of the Future Funding team in Environment and Business.
The role will oversee a team of around 20 people, with at least 3 direct reports. These include a team specialising in Green Finance, a Catchment Funding team and a Grants and Partnerships team.
Essential:
• Strong technical understanding of innovative funding, in the environment or another sector
• Experience of delivering novel funding or financing solutions to complex projects, particularly in the environmental field.
• Experience of leading or facilitating organisational change to introduce new and novel ways of working
• Exceptional influencing skills, especially working with businesses, senior officials in Government and NGOs
• Excellent communication skills, with a particular focus on making technical topics accessible to a wide range of stakeholders.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.

Desirable:
• Experience of influencing government policy at a strategic level, including working on Budgets, Spending Reviews and fiscal events
• A deep knowledge of Green Finance and/or the environment sector is desirable but not essential.

This role is a National role and can be done from anywhere in the country, with some travel required within the UK. The team is currently working remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic
