We are looking for energetic and dynamic people to work on national aspects of Project Speed. The posts will sit within the Sustainable Places team in the Environment and Business Directorate, but form part of a wider network including operational staff and functional colleagues. There will be opportunity to support Project Speed externally, through liaison with / influencing government and also lead / support a variety of internal initiatives with the overall aim of securing sustained improvement in our statutory planning response times and supporting major infrastructure. The work will also support our wider aspirations in supporting Sustainable Growth.

We have opportunities for Senior Advisors (Grade 6) to lead, support and contribute to projects in our Project Speed work plan and within our wider Sustainable Places and Growth work programme. This role is funded through Project Speed money secured through the SR20 spending review, and is offered on an assignment / fixed term contract until 31 March 2022.
We use the organisation’s knowledge and expertise to inform and influence housing, planning and local government issues. We promote environmental sustainability, resilience and adaptability, encouraging organisations and communities to use resources more efficiently, enabling them to cope with threats such as pollution and flooding. Externally, we manage key relationships with Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and PINS. Internally, key relationships are with EPE Managers, SP teams, and a range of functional colleagues.
We are operating in a fast moving landscape, so you will need to be adaptable and able to respond quickly to competing demands within tight timescales. You need to plan, be methodical and organised in your approach, you should be a great communicator, both written and verbal. We are a small team working on a high profile cross-cutting work area, and are dependent on good working relations across our organisation. The ability to engage others, build good relationships, thrive in a close team working environment, and provide a strong customer focus will also be key to this role.
Our team is based around England and, even in a non Covid-19 scenario, works remotely. A lot of our work is carried out over MSTeams, the telephone or by email. Some travel (if and when allowed) may be required to meet face to face.
