If you share this ambition, and can use your skills to engage and influence strategic place makers to maximise environmental outcomes and influence investment in the environment we would love for you to work in our Sustainable Places Team in Devon Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

In Area the team leads the Environment Agency’s portfolio on development, growth and planning policy. We seek to secure the best possible environmental outcomes by working closely with internal colleagues, 14 councils, numerous developers and strategic partners. The Area has a diverse range of environmental issues and development pressures creating exciting opportunities for an interesting and diverse workload.
You will work in a small, pro-active team that takes pride in achieving successful outcomes for the environment. You’ll provide technical leadership on Town & Country Planning and lead engagement on Local Plans. A key part of the role will be to build and sustain relationships with Local Planning Authorities, and other place makers. You will work collaboratively with other internal teams. The role offers opportunities to develop your leadership, innovation and engagement skills.
You will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following:

• a proven ability to achieve results and proactively solve problems;

• effective influencing and negotiation skills;

• excellent communication and networking skills;

• knowledge of the UK planning system and relevant legislation particularly relating to local plans/supporting evidence and development management work-streams

• good people and project management skills. An ability to work flexibly responding to competing demands in a challenging but rewarding workload environment;

• a positive caring attitude with an ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive work culture;

• qualified to at least degree standard or equivalent work history in a relevant discipline.

membership or demonstration of progression towards membership of a relevant professional body is desirable but not essential.
The role will be based at either Manley House Exeter or Sir John Moore House Bodmin, although currently it will be undertaken on a remote working basis until government guidelines on working from home changes.

There might be a requirement for travel between our offices and LPAs across the Area.

There are opportunities to get involved with incident management and you will be encouraged to take up an Incident Management role. We have a flexible range of roles you can volunteer for and you’ll get all the training and support you need.
