We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our team of Geomatics Analysts to assist in generating coastal and terrestrial habitat maps using aerial photography and other spatial datasets. With tight deadlines you will need to be able to get up to speed very quickly.
Using your GIS and image interpretation skills, you will create and update detailed habitat maps of coastal environments, including saltmarshes and sand dunes.
In addition, you will provide support to other remote sensing activities within the team, including rapid response analysis of flood incidents using satellite imagery.
Experience of working with LIDAR data is desirable to help processing as required.

The ideally suited candidate will be an organized and skilled everyday user of GIS, including file geodatabases, imagery and digitizing and have a good understanding of habitat classification.
The National Monitoring Survey team is a part of the Environment Agency's Operations Directorate.
The team provide a range of specialist technical services, to enable effective evidence to be used across the business and the wider environmental community. This includes the collection of LIDAR, Aerial Photography and Bathymetry data.
We are focused on delivering the highest quality data and providing a fully integrated approach to the delivery of geo-information.
You'll have a good degree in Geography, GIS, Ecology or another relevant scientific discipline.

You will be able to demonstrate strong and broad ranging GIS skills, preferably using ESRI ArcMap software. Be able to demonstrate recent experience working with complex mapping data, have experience in remote sensing techniques, analytical and problem solving skills and good attention to detail, either through work or your academic experiences
You'll be able to demonstrate a good understanding of habitat classification systems. Experience of image analysis and interpretation is desirable.

Your technical expertise should be combined with enthusiasm, flexibility and a professional attitude. You should show an ability to work to high scientific standards to provide accurate and high quality GIS ready products. You will have strong organisational skills, highly motivated and a professional attitude and demonstrate the ability to work independently to meet challenging deadlines.

You will be able to handle, analyse and interpret and report on large survey datasets to create clear and accurate GIS products.

Scientific Knowledge
You will need to demonstrate the ability to apply scientific knowledge to provide sound, science-based evidence to our internal and external customers. Being able to apply knowledge of survey techniques and coastal processes to provide sound, science-based evidence is required.
