We work to ensure homes and business are better protected and communities are better prepared for floods. We are seeking a skilled, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Hertfordshire and North London team. You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of our flood warning and flood incident management services. As part of a varied workload you will be required to work with a range of internal and external customers and professional partners to:
- maintain and improve our flood warning service
- support multi-agency preparedness to respond to flooding
- support our wider incident response

Your primary focus will be to deliver improvements to our flood warning network. You will be confident working with data in order to review our current network and support decision making for future development. You will also have the opportunity to carry out an incident role and support work with communities and professional partners to improve their resilience to flooding.
The flood resilience team provide a flood warning service, plan for incidents and help co-ordinate the areas response to flood events in order to minimise impact on life and property, we also identify new warning areas.
We raise awareness of flooding in areas through campaigns and mailshots and attend events and functions in line with this. To ensure the public are better prepared to respond to flood events.
You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to successfully deliver messages to a variety of audiences.
You will be confident working within a team environment and able to develop networks with colleagues locally and nationally.
You will be a highly organised, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, with the ability to problem solve.
Your ability to be adaptable and deliver work within tight timescales will be an advantage because sometimes the work can be reactive and unplanned after flooding incidents.
You will have competent IT and data skills; experience of GIS software would be beneficial.
It will be beneficial to have a good understanding of flooding, the Flood Warning Service and the Environment Agency’s Role in managing flood risk.
