As Field Team Leader you will provide strong, dynamic leadership and direction to your team. Supporting and equipping them to operate and maintain flood risk management assets, ensuring that they can deliver an effective, professional response to flood risk and environmental incidents. Your team member's health, safety and wellbeing will be central to your role.

You will ensure that your team has the required training, capability and tools to undertake their work safely and to act as the public face of the Environment Agency, liaising directly with customers.

You'll work with external partners, suppliers and landowners, as well as with internal teams, to plan the future maintenance needs of the catchment. Your strong leadership will maintain the high standard of corporate and professional behaviours expected of the team, support our organisational ambition to be world-leading asset managers and ensure successful delivery of our maintenance programme.

Ongoing personal development is important and you'll have the opportunity to gain further skills and knowledge which will compliment and further enhance your capabilities as an effective leader and manager within the organisation.

You will be a part of the Essex Operations Leadership team supporting the Operations Manager to provide leadership across the whole department.
The team comprises of around 12 people, including administrative support, specialist team members and skilled operatives. They are primarily focussed on the delivery of a programme of revenue and capital work on river and coastal assets in and around Essex. Predominately operating in the catchment area of the river Colne in North Essex. They support incident response both day and night in our area as well as across the country when called upon.
You should be able to demonstrate:
Excellent people skills and experience of leading a team.
Experience in motivating people to deliver to their full potential, with a track record of managing staff wellbeing effectively and delivering against corporate targets.
A strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, risk management procedures and practices including CDM and confident in managing and mitigating health and safety risks.
Well-developed communication and influencing skills.
Experience of managing performance fairly and effectively.
The ability to prioritise tasks and to quickly adapt to changing situations.
Experience of programme and financial management.
Experience of working with a range of customers both internal and external and delivering excellent customer service
Ideally some knowledge of civil, mechanical or electrical engineering or asset management.
Evidence of significant experience of successfully working in a similar role.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
Some standby and on-call work will be required. You'll also be required to take part in incident response. Your line manager will confirm the specific arrangements with you depending on your role.
