You will lead on the management of a variety of the Environment Agency’s range of flood defence structures including sluices, flood walls, embankments, gates, trash screens, culverts and pumping stations as well as routine river maintenance work, within the Blyth catchment. The work is varied and will include data and financial management, specification and review of works, management of minor construction projects and comprehensive asset maintenance as well as dealing with the public and professional organisations.

The role is based in Ipswich. The work will include both office and site work, site work will be required both during fine and inclement weather throughout the year.

A key part of the role will be assisting with incident response and you will fulfil a flood risk management duty role which can involve organising personnel, supervising work and dealing with pollution incidents.

Everyone starting a new role with the Environment Agency will be given all the training and support needed to succeed.

This is a fixed term assignment that runs to the end of June 2020.

Asset Performance is part of the Operations team, undertaking asset management and incident response. The team is responsible for maintaining flood risk management assets in Suffolk at their target condition, making sure our assets are operating, fit for purpose and safe. We inspect assets, record their condition and plan repairs and refurbishment. We plan channel maintenance, create, replace and decommission assets, engage and work with others, and manage asset information.
• You will be comfortable working within a team and on your own, able to manage your own workload and work to priorities.
• Good communication skills are essential as is having time management skills and being able to work to deadlines and quality standards.
• You should have the ability to produce clear, concise written documentation and present technical information using industry standard software packages - GIS experience is desirable.
• Having experience of producing Pre Construction Information documentation and design drawings using AutoCAD, alongside practical application of CDM Regulations is desirable, but guidance to develop this will be given.
• Site experience is desirable, but there will be opportunities to develop.
• Expertise in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel is expected along with a track record of providing excellent customer service.
• You will be keen to learn and develop.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
