We are looking for Environment Officers to join our Waste Management Teams in the West Midlands Area.

You will be responsible for regulating a range of waste activities to ensure that these are carried out without polluting the environment or causing harm to people. Sometimes we have to take tough action to achieve these aims and at times you will need to investigate environmental offences which might necessitate producing legal casework to present to the criminal courts.

A significant proportion of our work involves advice and guidance so it’s important that you have good influencing skills and can think laterally to resolve problems. You may also need to deal with situations that are confrontational.

You will also have the opportunity to develop technical expertise such as the management of particular wastes.
You will be based in one of our area offices in an operational team, working closely with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations.

We regulate permitted sites within a defined geographic patch, completing compliance checks and investigate illegal waste activity. We work with partners and customers to influence behaviour and encourage good practice.
A degree in a scientific subject is desirable and you will have a minimum of an A Level in a relevant discipline, or equivalent work experience.

You must be a confident and effective communicator, who can influence and negotiate to deliver outcomes. You will be proactive, self-motivated and flexible to effectively work independently and as part of a team.

We offer a full training package supported by a team of highly skilled and experienced waste regulators.
The Environment Officer role is a career grade position.
£20,558 per annum, increasing to £27,572 as you progress through the training and development programme.
Training to attain full competencies as a waste regulatory officer will take approximately 18 months.

Other benefits include:
Lease car
Generous career-average defined-benefits pension scheme
Flexi-time working arrangements
