This is an exciting opportunity to shape sustainable development to the benefit of the environment at a local level in the East Midlands. Working with our partners and colleagues through the planning process, you will secure environmental outcomes & improvements through our work at a strategic level.

You’ll focus on ensuring our local authorities, developers and consultants receive a streamlined and efficient planning service, whilst proactively seeking to recover the costs of our services in line with operational guidance, in a confident, pragmatic & professional manner.

You will provide technical leadership, expertise and guidance and have the ability to flex to meet the teams and wider Area’s requirements. You will have a proven record of delivering efficiency in your work. You will be proactive in engaging with our internal consultees and external partners to achieve timely, great outcomes.

This is a challenging, but exciting role. Do you have what it takes?
The Sustainable Places team currently consists of 6 members coordinating & formulating responses to Local Authorities on both developmental planning & strategic planning documents such as Local Plans working towards ensuring appropriate environmental mitigation & pushing for improvement at every opportunity. Team members are currently working from home, but there will be a need to be in the office in Nottingham & again when required, visit our local planning authorities when needed.
• Extensive knowledge of the planning system & relevant legislation i.e. Planning Appeals, EIPs, Local Plans & related supplementary documents.
• A sound collaborator & networker working closely with our internal consultees & our external partners to successfully influence through effective written & spoken communication skills
• Commercially aware & have the ability to influence & persuade external partners to take up our cost recoverable activities
• Coaching/mentoring of colleagues.
• Self-starter providing technical leadership & confident in liaising with senior leaders.
• Adaptive to change/new ways of working delivering efficiency & productivity.
• Demonstrating political awareness when dealing with customers and stakeholders.
• Lead on high profile schemes (major planning applications & NSIPs)
• Experience of working with/detailed knowledge of Local Enterprise Partnerships
• Flexibility will also be required to respond to changing demands and workloads within the team.
