At the Environment Agency we are looking for a senior Installations officer to regulate some of the most technical and complex permitted facilities in the Solent and South Downs area. You will work closely with the team’s Technical specialist to provide regulatory supervision of permitted facilities primarily in the Refineries and Chemicals sector.

The role will involve

On site assessment of compliance using tools such as auditing and inspections.
You will investigate non-compliances and potential offences (under EPR and COMAH) and follow our guidelines to apply appropriate enforcement responses. You will undertake desk based data analysis and review and will have an incident response role including testing of emergency response plans under COMAH. You will also be part of a national network of officers representing the area within the chemical and refineries sectors.
You'll join a team of experienced officers, who are dispersed across Solent and South Downs. Our primary aim is to ensure that industrial and complex waste sites operate in compliance with strict environmental standards for emissions and energy and resource efficiency.
This role requires someone with exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail, who can effectively prioritise a varied workload to tight deadlines and at times under pressure.

Ability to make decisions and solve problems, in situations where there is limited time and limited available information

Experience of environmental regulation in particular EPR and COMAH preferably within the chemical industry or Refineries

You will be an experienced environmental regulator or have extensive experience working in Industry

You will be confident a communicator at all levels within the Organisation and externally up to senior managers and Directors.

You will be able to process and interpret monitoring data to make sound and pragmatic decisions as part of a common sense approach to those we regulate.

You will have a relevant degree in a Scientific, Environmental or Engineering discipline

You will hold a relevant professional membership or Chartership for example IEMA, CIWEM, NEBOSH, CEnv
