In this rewarding role you will play an important part in maintaining defence assets that make up the Thames Barrier and associated gates. You'll be responsible to the Operations field Team Leader and will require to work alongside other operatives to undertake the civil maintenance on the Thames Barrier and associated gates, this will involve reactive and planned maintenance and you will be a member of the team operating flood gates under test and flood defence conditions.
Provide an appropriate emergency response for the Environment Agency.
Undertake all work in compliance with the Environment Agency's health and safety policies and procedures in order to minimise the risk to themselves and others.
Ensure all work is carried out with due regard to environmental and conservation needs to reduce the environmental impact.
Effective delivery of an emergency response capability for floods and environmental incidents to minimise the impact of the incident as directed.
Suggest and put forward new ideas/methods of working which improves safety, efficiency and effectiveness.
Communicate with other teams/parties to ensure full awareness of the work to be undertaken.
Operations field team form part of the maintenance team at the Thames Barrier, responsible for the reliability and efficiency of the Thames Barrier and Associated gates, machinery and equipment. The team's responsibility include minor structural repairs, minor carpentry, plumbing, painting, cleaning, structure maintenance and asset inspections as well as care of plant and equipment. The team is also heavily involved in facilities maintenance and waste management which involves electronic recording of waste streams and audits.
- Full driving licence essential.
- You'll have an enthusiastic and positive attitude to health and safety, the environment and working in a team.
- You'll be given all the training you need to further your development and skills.
- Act as a team player with good site knowledge, demonstrating a can-do attitude. Possess ability and knowledge with appropriate behaviours.
- You should have good interpersonal skills and communication skills, together with a high standard of literacy and a basic knowledge of IT.
The grade rate for this role is £20,254 + London weighting + Standby Payment.
A full driving licence is required as you'll need to drive agency vehicles in the course of a working day.
There will be a requirement to participate in a standby duty roster.

Driving Licence

Therefore, you will not be eligible for continuous service.
