An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead one of the Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Teams based in Solent and South Downs Area. The successful candidate will need to identify and prioritise the big risks, give clear direction and provide support to the team. Strong leadership is required to help us protect and enhance our diverse habitats and wildlife for current and future generations.
SSD Area has a high-quality water environment including biodiverse chalk streams with significant salmon populations, unique New Forest streams, and the Isle of Wight. The FBG Team strive to protect and improve conditions for wildlife, delivering a wide range of environmental improvements through our environment programme. The Team is also at the forefront of our efforts to protect water quality and quantity influencing multi-million pound investments made by water companies and other partners.
The Solent is internationally designated for important coastal and estuarine habitats and we have seen a dramatic loss of habitats over recent decades from development and sea level rise. We are taking a leading role to drive forward mitigation measures and restoration plans, in partnership with others. Again, the FBG Team are at the heart of this thinking.
You will lead an integrated team of fisheries and biodiversity experts. They are champions of the environment, winning awards for river restoration and actively working to conserve and maintain the diversity of freshwater fish, improve eel and fish passage, and restore biodiversity though environmental projects and fisheries enforcement.
Our technical experts provide advice on a wide range of activities, support the Flood Risk Capital Programme and help area FCRM teams make more sustainable decisions.
You’ll be able to describe how you will lead a team and show how you:
• Deliver outcomes through others.
• Effectively communicate
• Promote teamwork
• Work collaboratively
• Manage multiple priorities and competing demands.
• Are passionate about people, their development, and creating an inclusive environment.
• Manage the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and others.
• Build and maintain productive relations with customers to achieve demonstrable environmental benefits.
• Are experienced and skilled in working across organisations and with communities, be they public or private, large or small, at all levels.
We are committed to diversity and inclusion. We want all our staff to feel valued and respected and to see this as a great place to work. Diversity: it’s in our nature.
We support flexible working hours and practices to help you strike a good balance between your work life and your personal life. We will also encourage you to keep developing your skills and professional knowledge throughout your career.
