Do you want to create a first class incident management service in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly? Incident response is one of our top priorities and we are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and adaptable people who can help us to develop our ability to manage, respond to and recover from environmental and flooding incidents.
We are a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. This means that we have a legal obligation to prepare for emergencies, and that we are at the core of the multi-agency response to a major incident.
As an incident management advisor you will help to support around 350 staff working across Devon and Cornwall who, in additional to their day-jobs, also undertake one of our voluntary incident response roles. You will be expected to:
• Work with our incident role leads to run a comprehensive training and exercise programme.
• Provide and maintain the materials (including IT systems, incident rooms and equipment) that our incident responders need to be competent.
• Help to create and maintain risk assessments, incident plans and procedures.
Our Area Incident Management Team helps to manage an increasing incident management workload, builds incident response capability within the area, and aims to improve the wellbeing of staff involved in incidents.
We work in partnership to deliver effective multi-agency incident and emergency planning, response and recovery. We do this through our representation on Local Resilience Fora and Environment Groups, and by collaborating directly with risk management authorities, the emergency services, government and community emergency volunteers.
Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate the following:
• An understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Category 1 responder
• Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
• Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills and use of a wide range of communication and engagement channels and products
• Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes
• The ability to lead and support working/task groups and organise/facilitate effective meetings
• A drive for risk based decision making and continuous improvement
