This is an exciting opportunity to help create a cleaner, safer, healthier environment for wildlife and people in Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic person who is passionate about the environment to support our Waste South team.

Our work is varied and interesting; no two days are the same. You’ll need to be well organised, able to work flexibly, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You’ll be thorough with good attention to detail, and the ability to manage your own workloads to juggle competing demands in a fast-moving environment.

You will carry out a range of duties including email and diary management, organising meetings and travel arrangements, records management and be a point of contact for our teams and customers. You will need to filter a lot of information quickly to ensure the right actions are taken by the right people at the right time.

You should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook and Excel. The role is predominantly office-based, but we would support you gaining on-site experience with our regulatory officers and encourage you to get involved in our incident response work.
Our Waste teams respond to environmental incidents of all kinds wherever and whenever they occur across the Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire area. We regulate permitted sites ranging from local civic amenity sites and scrap-yards to composting and anaerobic digestion. We investigate illegal activity and organised criminality, and take enforcement action as necessary. We work with our professional partners and customers to influence behaviour and encourage good practice to protect the environment.
Ideally you will have experience in a regulatory or customer-focused environment. More importantly, you will have great communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative to achieve tight deadlines.

You will be resourceful and demonstrate good organisation to deal with shifting priorities. Able to provide information in an accurate, timely and efficient manner, you will also be used to dealing with confidential information sensitively and securely. Experience of note and minute taking would be an advantage.

Whatever your background, you’ll be interested in the environment and willing to be flexible in your approach to your work. Whilst relevant work experience would be an advantage, it’s less important to us than your ability to demonstrate key transferable skills and personal qualities such as great communication, organisation and a can-do attitude.

Occasional travel may be required in this role, so a driving licence would be helpful although not essential.
Please contact Bethan Sumner, Waste South Team Leader on 02030 255922 or bethan.sumner@environment-agency.gov.uk for further details.
