We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment. Acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife is at the heart of everything we do. We work with government, local councils, businesses, civil society groups and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife.

We’re investing £2.5billion between now and 2021 that will reduce flood risk to 300,000 homes across the UK. It’s an exciting time and we need your help to ensure we’re prepared for any future flooding in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight area.

This role is varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferable skills. Working closely with other teams, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:

• Supporting our flood risk Officers logging and assessing Flood Risk Activity Permits
• Responding to information requests about flooding in the local community
• Helping to improve our flood risk information
• Supporting the team to develop ways to reduce the risk of flooding in communities
• Assisting with Emergency Response when flooding and environmental incidents occur
Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) plays a huge part in the work that the Environment Agency does; helping to protect against flooding and minimising the risks caused by any floods that do occur. The work we do directly and in partnership with others reduces flood risk to communities.
Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:

• Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
• Ability to work within teams
• Be able to use initiative and deliver work to deadlines
• Good organisational skills and an ability to use MS Office

Excellent communication skills are a must as you’ll be working with a diverse range of people.
The key things we’re looking for are transferrable skills and capabilities, so do not be put off applying if you don’t have a degree and/or you don’t have experience in this sector.
As an entry level grade we welcome all backgrounds but want a person who can demonstrate a passion to improve the local environment.
GIS skills would prove useful.
