You’ll play a key role in managing the Environment Agency’s range of flood defence assets in Thames area. You will be involved with the whole life of a river system from the creation of new structures, through to the maintenance, inspection and ongoing review of engineering performance. A critical element of the whole life cycle is incident management ensuring that our structures are capable of performing to their design criteria during flood events
From sluice gates to embankments, locks to weirs, culverts and pumping stations as well as routine river maintenance work. The work is varied and will include data and financial management, specification and review of works, management of construction projects and comprehensive asset maintenance as well as liaison with public and professional organisations.
The role includes a good mix of office and site work. You will also be trained in incident response and you will fulfil an incident management duty role which can involve organising personnel, supervising work and working in our incident room.
You’ll work in an Asset Performance team as a technical leader to help us manage flood risk asset maintenance activities along the River Thames. The number and type of assets we manage is increasing and we need someone who is versatile to help us manage this by using available data to prioritise repair and recondition our assets. You will be self-motivating and capable of identifying opportunities to maximise our delivery capability and identify future work.
The Environment Agency can offer you a great environment to use your engineering skills. You will have worked for an asset management client organisation or contractor and have delivered projects for them or supervised delivery of work. From your work and/or qualifications you will have experience of engineering and allied work and be able to manage multiple pieces of work/projects at the same time. You will be comfortable working within a team and on your own.
You should have:
• Project Management experience
• Engineering qualification and practical experience
• Safety, Health & Environment experience and awareness
• Strong IT skills, e.g. CAD,
• Excellent communication skills
• Commitment to your own personal development and developing & mentoring others
• Full driving licence
