Within our Operations Field Team, You will work with and lead teams to manage river and coastal defences, working to counteract the causes of flooding and pollution and providing an emergency response service for the Environment Agency. You will lead team members on sites, ensuring everyone works efficiently and safely delivering routine maintenance of our assets.

The team works to protect properties and infrastructure by maintaining flood defences and river channels. This physical role involves working in a team, outside in all weathers. We undertake a range of activities, from strimming, debris and tree removal to construction and maintenance works. We act quickly when floods and incidents occur, so you will take part in an emergency call out rota to respond, operating our assets such as pumps, sluices and flood gates.

Everyone starting in a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all of the training and support needed to succeed.

The South Suffolk Field Team is based at our depot in Ipswich. We deliver a maintenance programme on rivers and watercourses across the area, we respond to flooding and environmental incidents both day and night. We provide advice and support to our colleagues in Asset Performance, Hydrometrics, Biodiversity and Environmental Management. We also work across the country when called upon to assist other areas in incident response and environmental incidents.
- You should demonstrate a positive adaptable approach and a 'can do' attitude as a worthy team player.
- Good organisational skills and a proven ability to work under pressure during incidents are essential.
- You must understand site health and safety requirements
- You will need good communications skills to be able to deal with stakeholders.
- You will need to be able to coach and encourage others on site.
- You will need a good level of environmental awareness, experience with tablet style computers and familiarity with mobile technology.

A full UK driving licence is essential.

The ideal candidate will have leadership experience and a foundation of practical skills along with competence in the use of tools and plant and machinery.
The grade rate is £20,566
Hours of work: 37 per week.

Some standby and on-call work will be required. You'll also be required to take part in incident response. If successful your manager will discuss arrangements with you depending on your role.
