The new Nature Gain Team will enable the Environment Agency (EA) to protect and enhance nature, leaving the nation’s natural environment in a better state than we inherited it. This role (0.6FTE job share) will support the EA to deliver the 12 commitments of its strategy and become a truly sustainable business, through facilitating and delivering sustainability learning, capability, skills, leadership, understanding, credentials, and expertise.

- Monitoring the EA’s agreed approach to sustainability learning, including supporting any specific learning initiatives and incident reviews, as directed by line manager.
- Inputting into reviews of the organisation’s existing sustainability learning policies, processes, and procedures, and revising and developing these, as appropriate.
- Integrating sustainability into existing EA training programmes, to ensure that the EA’s credibility and accreditation on sustainable learning is protected and enhanced.
- Working with colleagues, as directed by line manager, to support the delivery of bespoke sustainability training, aligned with legal/EA/Defra frameworks.
- Delivering timely, relevant, high quality sustainability learning reporting, in accordance with sustainability team guidelines and compliance standards.
The Sustainable Business Team (SBT) is a welcoming one. We are part of the Chief Operating Officer Directorate. Our role is to act as a corporate enabler, supporting colleagues across the Environment Agency (Area/Directorate), Defra and our suppliers, to embed eMission2030: the EA’s sustainability strategy. This strategy encompasses delivery of our ambition to become Net Zero Carbon by 2030, as well as championing resource optimisation, environmental net gain and benefiting people, wildlife, and communities.
The generic requirements are set out in the G5 Business Services job profile. The key competences for this role are:
- Practical experience of delivering learning and training programmes within a large, complex organisation.
- Experience of delivering diverse training interventions across geographically dispersed, diverse teams, at all working levels.
- Ability to work consistently at pace, to deliver high quality learning outcomes, in a timely fashion.
- Ideally, previous experience of utilising a range of different coaching and online learning tools and techniques.
- Relevant qualification or equivalent learning and training experience. Ideally knowledge and/or learning delivery experience in sustainability, or a similar field.
