We are looking for an experienced senior ecologist to join the Analysis and Reporting Team. The role is varied and the successful candidate will have responsibility in the team for a number of different work areas that are required to ensure we meet our monitoring, investigative and reporting needs and to achieve the best environmental outcomes possible.

Although this is a technical role you will be expected to provide leadership in a number of different ways and people skills are a vital part of the job. We require somebody who can be proactive in building and maintaining relationships in the team, with other internal teams as well as with external stakeholders. You will provide sound ecological advice, review and quality control technical documents and reports, increase resilience in the team through mentoring and will need to help embed new ways of working.

We are looking for somebody who can take responsibility for delivering work consistently and to required standards whether being delivered by yourself or through others.

In all aspects of this work we are looking for somebody who will be able to lead by example in their behaviours and promote inclusion in our workplace.
We are a friendly and inclusive team of ecologists who provide evidence-led ecological monitoring and data assessment to support environmental management, fisheries and water resources activities in the East Midlands Area. We turn data into evidence to support the Environment Agency’s responsibilities in environmental management and in its ambition to create a better place.
We are looking for an experienced freshwater ecologist with a degree in a relevant subject or relevant significant vocational experience. Membership of a chartered institute is desirable.

You will have an in-depth knowledge of monitoring freshwater ecology and the available tools used to assess and report ecological data and be able to coach others in their use. You will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of the main pressures and impacts affecting water quality and water resources. You will have excellent research and analysis skills and an ability to make proportionate, evidence-based decisions from information along with the ability to constructively critique technical documents and reports.

You will need to understand and provide guidance on a range of technical work areas in order to explain and mentor others. Therefore, in addition to technical skills, you have well-developed people skills and can lead a team to achieve required results.
A full UK driving licence is required.

We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve and welcome applications from diverse backgrounds including disabled, LGBT+, Black Asian and Minority Ethnic, and neuro-diverse colleagues. We also welcome flexible working patterns so please clearly include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.

Please note we do not assess CVs. It is your answers given to the questions below that will be used for interview selection so ensure you draw out your skills and experience in your responses. A copy of our "EA capability dictionary" can be viewed by searching online using any web browser.
