Could you use your experience and understanding of the waste management industry to maximise the potential for waste to be used as a resource? With the continuing transition to electric transportation, we can foresee a need to understand end-of-waste for electric vehicle batteries to be used as a resource. There are a number of end uses for these batteries and we are looking to produce a new Resource Framework to help industry unlock these valuable resources through agreed specifications and standards. If you have the drive to work with key industry players, and a desire to make a real difference in the move to a circular economy then this is the job for you.

Our Resources from Waste Team support the development of the Circular Economy and help implement the Government’s Resource and Waste Strategy and are looking to recruit an Advisor to help with this work.

The role involves problem solving either around technical aspects of the work, the delivery our services or other business challenges. The role also requires the Advisor to input on the development of guidance and processes and lead on these areas when required.
The team sits within Waste Regulation in the EA’s Environment and Business Directorate. We provide a number of commercial end-of-waste opinion services to external customers as well as technical support to internal colleagues and policy input to Defra on all aspects of End of Waste. There are three areas: Definition of Waste Service, Resources Frameworks and Definition of Waste Code of Practice. You would have the opportunity to be involved with all these sub teams.
• A good understanding of waste regulation including definition of waste, and ideally an understanding of EV battery technology,

• The ability to read and analyse and interpret technical documentation. You will be comfortable in decision making and will present back your own ideas, based on evidence and interpretation, to make recommendations to colleagues,

• Great customer engagement skills,

• A proactive approach to your work, and

• To be able to work as part of a dispersed team and show you can use your initiative to work independently and manage your time effectively.
We would strongly recommend that you contact either: Mike A Smith - Resources from Waste Team Leader on 07702 719353, or Rich Fairweather, Resources Frameworks lead on 07799133172 to discuss the role.

The role is for up to 23 months for the right candidate. We are an inclusive team and EDI is very important to us. We welcome applications from those wishing to work part time and/or wishing to job share.

Application sifting is based on your answers to the three capabilities. Make sure you make full use of the 250-word limit in your answer. Think about the Situation, Task, Action, Result (STAR) approach when framing your answers. Explain how you demonstrate the capability and use a relevant example by way of illustration.
