Do you have a passion for the environment? Are you motivated by the chance to make a difference to water quality?
If so, we’re looking for an Environment Planning Officer with great enthusiasm and strong desire to learn new technical skills to join our team in the North East
This role is about understanding the water quality in the North East, the pressures that affect it and helping to ensure that the environment is protected.
This role will require someone to be able to gather, process and present data and information.
You will be required to speak to internal and external customers as necessary. This isn’t a significant part of the role, but something that you will need to be comfortable doing.
As you develop in this role, you will learn how to apply this information yourself and you will start to get involved in some more complex work areas.
As a water quality officer you will:

Assist on the statutory water quality planning process
 Review and provide assurance on water company price reviews and performance reporting;
 Support our technical specialist on several technical portfolios
 Provide analysis, comment and review of technical modelling reports
You will be part of the integrated environment planning team in North East Area. The team look after water quality issues, river basin planning and water resources. We work closely with other teams in the area, with national colleagues and with partner organisations
The team are extremely supportive and you will be given the training and mentoring needed to do your role
We are looking for someone who is educated to degree level in an appropriate discipline (environmental science, geography etc), or can demonstrate at least 12 months relevant experience in a similar role
You are comfortable with data and handling and interpretation. You will have some database experience (Excel, access etc)
You are confident and curious and willing to ask questions when you don’t understand something. You will be willing to take the initiative with your work and learning.
You are a good communicator. You can talk to people at different levels (managers and team members). You can make technical information understandable and present it in different ways
You can work well in a team and appreciate how you fit with the wider goals of the team and the environment agency
We expect candidates to have some experience of, or interest in, the water environment and natural processes.
We are currently taking a blended approach to working and are working both from home and from the office depending on which is most appropriate.
