We are the Environment Agency, we work in partnership with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to tackle the impacts of climate change and manage the assets that protect Central London from flooding.

We are looking for a highly motivated Flood & Coastal Risk Management Officer to join our team. The team contributes to the maintenance, reliability and safe operation of Thames Barrier and associated gates (TBAG) and delivers a large investment programme working with key supply chain partners.

Key responsibilities will include:
• Leading on improving elements of our asset management work, including managing, and improving the data systems we use.
• Working with the Thames Estuary Asset Management 2100 programme/other Environment Agency teams on programme and project delivery
• Providing high quality updates/oversight to colleagues within Thames Tidal Defences and across the organisation
• Responding to issues/emergencies when required
• Providing facilities & I.T. support

There are opportunities to be trained in an Incident Response role – These incident roles attract additional pay/allowances after a qualifying period.
The Thames Barrier is one of the largest moveable flood defence barriers in the world and the teams who work here protect London from tidal flooding. Our team consists of engineers, planners, project managers and data analysts working together to maintain and improve the flood defences in the Thames Estuary.

The whole team support one another, and you will be welcomed and be provided with the training and guidance needed to be successful.
• A background qualification or relevant experience in engineering, data management or project management with knowledge/understanding of asset management
• A strong focus of site health, safety, and wellbeing, with clear understanding of the importance of safe systems of work.
• Effective communication skills enabling you to build positive working relationships with colleagues and external partners
• Experience of working in teams that deliver work together as well as using your initiative when making decisions.
• Accurate data management skills
• Panning and organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple tasks
