At the Environment Agency there’s so much more to our work than building flood risk management schemes or regulating industry. We strive to ensure that everything we do counts towards leaving a legacy to be proud of – for people, communities, and the environment – for all of us to enjoy and for future generations.
We’re looking for an Assistant Project Manager, a role which will see you join teams working on vital projects, often focused on our flood risk asset management programme. In practice, you’ll take complete responsibility for some of our smaller projects and support senior colleagues as you gain experience on our major programmes of work.
Whatever the challenge, you’ll be involved throughout and take on wide-ranging responsibilities: adding value at the initial strategic planning phase all the way into implementation, construction, and delivery. This will require demonstration of collaborative working, building positive working relationships, influencing, and persuading, report writing, cost monitoring and forecasting, feasibility assessment, outline design, environmental management, and construction management.
Naturally, we want you to be the best in your field. So, expect training and development that helps you grow professionally. We will also pay your fees for one professional membership.
We are the Wessex Area facing Programme and Contracts Management team (PCM), creating a better place through excellence in project and programme management. You will become part of an award-winning team that provides areas, alongside national services, and centres, with an effective project and programme management service. Our strong, well-qualified teams manage projects throughout their lifecycle to deliver environmental improvements, adding value and resulting in a greater sense of shared ownership with local communities
Likely to be qualified to degree level or equivalent in an engineering, environmental or geography related discipline with an expectation you will be working toward chartered membership of a relevant professional body such as ICE, CIWEM or APMP but not essential if you can offer good experience and a proven track record in a project or programme delivery environment.
You’ll be a great communicator and champion of good practice, well-used to achieving project outcomes as part of a high performing team.
Having used project management skills for at least a year, it would also help to have a project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or APM and be working towards membership of a related professional body too; but we can support you towards this. The more experience you have of financial and commercial controls, NEC contract suites, CDM regulations and risk management, the better.
Whilst initially the roles will be remote working from home in line with government guidance, we have team members in Exeter, Bristol, Blandford, and Bridgwater and are happy to consider applications from people wanting to be based in any of those offices.
Driving licence ideally required as some driving may be necessary. Occasional travel (regionally or nationally) and overnight stays required. For further information contact Nol Vincent via email nol.vincent@environment-agency.gov.uk.

CVs or other documents attached to your application will not be assessed for selection.

Interviews are anticipated to take place Interview date: wk/c 18th July
