We’re looking for a Fisheries Enforcement Officer to join us in the North East Area. This is an exciting, unique and rare opportunity, which will suit an individual who has a wish to work in the natural environment with the willingness and character to tackle fisheries related crime, including the poaching of salmon and unlicensed angling.

As a Fisheries Enforcement Officer, you will hold an authorisation under the Salmon & Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975 (SAFFA) and be empowered as a Constable to investigate fisheries offences. You would receive appropriate training in relevant legislation and be issued with specialist equipment and PPE.
Mostly field-based, you will undertake regular fisheries enforcement patrols with colleagues, police and other enforcement partners, using your initiative to target, disrupt and take action against fisheries crime. You will be required to work unsocial hours, attend incidents at very short notice and work weekends when required. Fisheries Enforcement Officers need to be flexible, and able to plan, adapt and respond where pressures demand. You should be comfortable using computer based systems and be competent keeping accurate records and inputting / retrieving data.
Situated within the Enforcement Team, you'll work closely and in support of other members of the Team both technically and operationally in High Impact Fisheries Enforcement (HIFE) and rod license checking. Also enforcing legislation relating to fish movements and alien fish species. Where appropriate you’ll attend incidents use your excellent communication skills to promote our work and deal with hostile situations. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake specialist surveillance and enforcement training.
Experience of investigating crime and taking enforcement action is desirable. If you do not have these but have enthusiasm to learn and work in a challenging environment you will be coached to a high standard.
You’ll possess;

- A passion about the environment and willingness to learn about environmental regulation and enforcement
- Excellent verbal, written communication skills and organisational skills;
- Experience of conflict resolution techniques is desirable but not essential, and the successful candidate will be expected to pass mandatory conflict resolution training, which demands a level of physical fitness;
- A full UK driving licence and ability to swim are essential; boat handling experience / qualifications is / are desirable;
- Knowledge of fisheries and environmental legislation would be an advantage, but not essential;
- Have a proven ability to complete tasks accurately and with minimum supervision, either working individually or as part of a team.

- The successful applicant will travel and work across our North East Area as required.
-Working outside the the Area may be required.
- The role requires participation in an out-of-hours incident roles, with periods of unsociable working, including night time and weekends. A shift allowance applies to this role. - A good level of fitness is required to maintain an authorisation for this role and annual training requires an appropriate medical.
- Need to pass Non Police Personnel Vetting level 2.
