Are you an experienced Data Analyst with a passion for employing your skills and experience to protect and enhance the environment? This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of data analysts transforming the way Water Company data is assessed to strengthen intelligence-led regulation and drive improved performance of the Water Industry.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Data Analyst to be at the heart of work to deliver digital transformation, providing cutting edge data analytical capabilities at a national level to support delivery of regulatory activities across the business. The availability of big data for the Water Industry through new monitoring requirements of the Environment Act presents a fantastic opportunity for the right person to support our work in a high-profile work area.

In this role you will:
• Develop and maintain new tools and applications to analyse large sets of water company data, together with environmental information, to assess compliance against environmental permit conditions.
• Ensure quality and robustness of reported data and provide technical advice to improve data quality and processes in the future.
• Embed new processes and tools within the business ensuring feedback and continuous development to meet changing needs.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
You will join the Digital Innovation and Regulation Team in Water Regulation, part of the National Environment and Business (E&B) directorate. You will play a central role in shaping and delivering the Environment Agency’s data and evidence led approach to regulating Water Companies.

In E&B we promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued. We use evidence, expertise, and innovation to enhance and support delivery, influence policy, legislation and secure resources.
You will have experience of managing and analysing large sets of data from multiple sources to inform decision making. It is desirable that applicants have knowledge of the Water Industry sector, flow monitoring at wastewater treatment works and storm overflows. However, this can be taught, and your data skills are more important.

Applicant should have:
•Experience of managing, analysing and presenting large datasets using statistical computing and analysis software such as ‘R’, Python, FME, ArcGIS and the Microsoft Power BI Platform.
•Experience of designing tools/applications to improve the collation and interpretation of data to inform decision making.
•Excellent written and verbal communication - sharing trends, conclusions and making recommendations based on your analysis.
•Able to work as part of a team, sharing skillsets to build resilience and ensuring processes are documented.

Membership of a professional organisation, e.g. CIWEM, is advantageous but not essential. Continued professional development is encouraged/supported.
