Customer Insight, Operational Delivery
Last year Yorkshire was severely affected by intense rainfall and flooding. As a result, we’re growing our Flood and Coastal Risk Management teams so that we can reduce the risk of flooding to the people of Yorkshire. It’s an exciting time and we need your help to ensure we’re fully prepared for the future.

You’ll be responsible for improving how we prepare for and respond to flooding and other environmental incidents. You’ll focus on engaging with local communities, raising awareness of flood risk and helping them put plans in place to respond when flooding is expected. You’ll also be instrumental in a wide range of local projects and working groups, all with the aim of maximising the skills and resources at our disposal, so that we continually improve the way we prepare for and respond to floods. You'll also be required at times to attend evening meetings and participate in out-of-hours incident response.
Flood Resilience teams ensure we’re ready for flooding. We roster for emergencies, coordinate training exercises and support incidents. We work closely with communities by maintaining flood warning systems, answering enquiries and providing advice on what to do before, during and after flooding. When we’re building new flood defences or in areas affected by flooding, we work with communities to ensure they are fully prepared. We also work with partners to ensure we all pull together.
A strong leader with well-developed communication and facilitation skills, you’ll possess a solid working knowledge of flood risk and ideally be educated to degree-level (or equivalent). While we’re particularly interested in candidates with an advanced knowledge of Geography and Emergency Planning, we’re looking for more than an academic understanding of the issues we face. An efficient and logical approach to project management is essential, as are the interpersonal abilities needed to build relationships with a wide range of internal stakeholders in addition to the communities we serve. Experience in flood incident management is desirable.
There are 3 permanent vacancies available.
