We are looking for Environment Officers to join our waste teams covering Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. You'll be responsible for regulating the waste industry, ensuring our regulated sites remain in full compliance with their environmental permits and taking enforcement action against those that fail to comply. This is a challenging front line role and you may need to deal with situations that could be hostile and confrontational. Good communication, influencing and persuading skills are therefore essential.

The role will require you to respond to pollution incidents and investigate illegal activities during and outside office hours, as well as supporting wider incident management across the business.

On a daily basis, you'll be actively involved in compliance and regulation activities across a range of sectors. Whatever the sector, whatever the location, the focus remains the same; getting the best outcomes for people and wildlife ensuring that local communities we serve get the best possible service from us.

Full training will be provided and ongoing professional development is a focus for all Environment Agency staff.
At the Environment Agency we are committed to diversity and inclusion and want our staff to feel valued and respected at work. We are seeking great team players to join our waste regulatory department which is responsible for the effective regulation of around 900 permitted waste facilities in Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. We are committed to improving environmental performance across all our sites and taking effective and robust enforcement action against poor performers.
You'll be able to demonstrate that you have experience of, or skills in:

• Challenging practices and processes to implement improvements;
• Effective communication and building customer and partner relationships;
• Influencing and persuading customers;
• Working independently, taking decisions and solving problems to achieve positive outcomes;
• Dealing successfully with conflict and difficult situations;
• Adapting your behaviour appropriately to different people and situations;
• A full UK driving licence is essential as you’ll be involved in fieldwork.
Closing Date: 14th January 2018

Please note that although the roles are advertised as fixed term contracts, there is a possibility they could be made permanent in the future. For further information about the role please contact Paul Gates or Katy Holt, Waste Regulation Team Leaders, by email at paul.gates@environment-agency.gov.uk and katy.holt@environment-agency.gov.uk

Please do not be put off applying if you don’t have a degree or qualification in the environment field because we will provide you with all the training you’ll need.
