Office work to analyse, validate and quality assure hydrometric data collected from the field to provide business critical information to internal and external customers, partners and stakeholders. Fieldwork includes installing, testing, calibrating and repairing complex instrumentation. You will work both in teams and alone, and there will be frequent, sometimes unscheduled travel. You will need to be enthusiastic about outdoor work in all weathers and capable of relying on your initiative and problem solving skills.
The Hydrometry team at Tewkesbury manage the network of rainfall, river level, flow and groundwater measurement sites in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. They provide a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency's statutory responsibilities relating to flood forecasting and water resources.
You will be qualified to degree level or equivalent, probably in an environmental, scientific or engineering subject. With good I.T. and data management skills you will have an aptitude for numbers, a logical and analytical mind and be prepared to pay special attention to detail when analysing trends in large data sets. You must be able to demonstrate a good range of proven practical skills, perhaps gained by dealing with scientific instruments, craft hobbies, vehicle maintenance or similar. There will be practical and numeracy tests as part of the interview process.
You must be able to swim as you will often be working in or near water. The successful candidate will be required to pass a colour vision test prior to appointment as you will have to maintain low voltage electrical equipment with multi coloured wiring.
