This is an exciting opportunity to provide specialist support and technical leadership to our non-nuclear Radioactive Substances Regulation (RSR) team within Installations.

There are 2 roles, one would be based at Welwyn Garden City covering HNL and KSL and the other based in either our Wallingford or Farnham office covering Thames and Wessex, Devon, and Cornwall areas.

You will be responsible for the regulation and enforcement of complex non-nuclear radioactive substances sites contributing to both the security of radioactive sources and protection of the environment. You will use your influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice, often dealing with people at senior levels in industry, local communities, and other relevant groups. You will respond to and investigate incidents making sure suitable preventative and protective actions are implemented.

Of equal importance will be your ability to develop and coach other members of the team with technical oversight of their continuous professional development and supporting the resilience and delivery of our non-nuclear radioactive substance’s regulation.

In addition, as a specialist and technical leader, you will take an active role within the Installations teams providing specialist support on radioactive substances and support the wider Regulated Industry function on priority work and assurance, particularly in RSR.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

You will be an experienced regulator able to demonstrate your considerable operational experience and knowledge of radioactive substances and its regulation.

With excellent technical knowledge, communication, and interpersonal skills you will be able to demonstrate how you would provide and contribute technical resilience to radioactive substances regulation in the East of England and the non-nuclear radioactive substance’s function.

Confident and flexible in how you approach and respond to changing priorities including incident response, you will be highly motivated with a proven ability to deliver results, innovate and work with others to help achieve common goals. You will hold a degree in a scientific discipline and hold, or be working towards, Radioactive Waste Compliance Advisor accreditation.
