A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen within the Fisheries, Biodiversity & Geomorphology Team in the Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly area. We are looking for someone who will help us restore natural processes and enhance the natural environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the environment.
Fish are an essential part of the freshwater aquatic environment, and healthy stocks indicate good environmental quality. It's our job to maintain, improve and develop freshwater fisheries. We work closely with local stakeholders, such as angling groups, fishery's owners, conservation bodies and local authorities to realise environmental outcomes.
The work is varied and you will deliver our objectives through projects, and influencing all our work as a regulator, operator, incident manager, advocate and influencer of others.
Your mission will be to ensure that we deliver:-
- Improved fish stocks and a better environment for wildlife;
- More chances for more people to fish and fisheries performing better;
- Sustainable fisheries, boosting the local economy, meeting social and cultural needs;
- Improved Fish & Eel Passage
- Contribute to our wider goals of improved biodiversity, sustainable development and river restoration
You will join a large, vibrant team which integrates fisheries, biodiversity and geomorphology expertise across Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. We conserve and enhance rivers, wetlands, estuaries and coastal habitats to deliver long-lasting resilient and adaptive landscape-scale environmental improvements.
The successful candidate must have the following:
• A proven track record for delivering results for the environment,
• Excellent communication skills,
• Influencing and negotiating skills to improve outcomes for fish.
• Ability to use their experience of working with the natural environment to make decisions in a timely manner, finding optimal solutions in sometimes challenging situations.
• Ability to plan and manage own workload to deliver outcomes in a timely manner, often working to tight deadlines, whilst also working co-operatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
• Knowledge of Legislation relevant to working with fisheries at the environment agency,
• Work experience and/or education in a relevant discipline.
• UK driving licence
