You will act as a part of the Portfolio Delivery Office’s Data Analysis and Reporting Team (DART) engaging widely across the business to transform performance data into business, commercial and programme information with a focus on the Flood and Coastal Risk Management portfolio. While providing specific capabilities for the team you will also have a general understanding across the team’s operation and will support accordingly as the need arises.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

1) Collate and analyse relevant business and management information (note: data processing tests will form part of the interview)
2) Produce Power BI dashboards for a range of audiences from executive to operational level
3) Assist in the production of KPI reporting and variance analysis
4) Assist in developing models and modelling techniques that support business objectives.
5) Challenge and assist the development of data management practices (including Business Intelligence activities) and processes, helping to identify appropriate new systems and calibrating them for use in the business.
6) Connect to pre-existing data sources and set up new ETL – using e.g. APIs, ETL software
7) Provide tuition and support to the team and the business in data analysis techniques.
DART sits within the Portfolio Delivery Office part of Major Projects and Programme Delivery. We deliver dashboarding and data management services on a broad range of business areas. The team is a blend of Environment Agency and consultants fulfilling the roles of Data Analyst, Business Analyst, service desk and knowledge management. We have cultivated a culture of collaboration within the team and have an excellent breadth of skills and experience for joiners to learn from.
The role is diverse, challenging, fast-paced and changeable. Analytical skills are central, as are initiative, time management, prioritising workload, building relationships, and project management skills. Effective communication skills, showing empathy and understanding of your audience is essential.

Essential capabilities:

Highly proficient in data analysis using Excel (cleaning, processing and visualising data in Excel 2013 as a minimum)
Able to manage yourself; highly motivated, organised, resilient and able to deliver
Strong influencing and communication skills
Ability to thrive in a changing environment
Developed and delivered business information using data analytics

Preferable capabilities:

Knowledge of supply chain management/commercial frameworks/construction programmes
Experience of using SQL or other database querying languages; R, Python, VBA or DAX
Experience using BI application(s) e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Qlik
Experience of data warehousing and business intelligence platforms
Experience using APIs to access data (Python preferable)
Experience creating ETL processes (FME preferable)
Project management qualifications (e.g. Prince2 or APMG)

Location is flexible, however the core EA staff in the team are currently based in Bristol and this would be a preferred location. Some travel to other EA office locations may be required but this is likely to be infrequent. As a dispersed team you should feel comfortable connecting to team members and customers remotely via Teams, Outlook etc and face to face.
