We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive individual to join the Waste Streams Team within Waste Industry and Regulatory Services (WIRS), part of National Services E&B.

You will be an expert in waste regulation, with knowledge of waste classification and cradle to grave waste tracking. Knowledge of our enforcement powers and procedures would also be an advantage.

The team is responsible for collating data and identifying trends and patterns, producing intelligence to enable targeted interventions at waste sites and within targeted waste regimes. The team is currently working to redefine its’ scope and we are looking for someone who is innovative and forward-focused to help lead and shape growth, engage with customers and find new ways to add value to the wider business.

As a senior member of the team you will be instrumental in shaping and promoting the work of the team and driving it forwards, supporting junior team members and liaising with the team Leader and Principal Technical Officers to agree our strategic direction and maximise our effectiveness.

This is a national post providing a service to our area officers across England. The team is based in Sheffield.
WIRS deliver a variety of technical and compliance related activities across several regulatory regimes; helping to protect and improve the environment. This role sits within the existing Waste Streams Team and works closely across several teams within the department to maximise our impact and share resources. The team is small and dynamic, quickly implementing new ideas and taking a project management approach to our on-going growth and development.
• Experience of regulating or ensuring compliance with waste management legislation
• Experience of assessing compliance through data interrogation
• Ability to interpret and explain data and patterns in data to a variety of audiences, providing direction and guidance in an appropriate format.
• Ability to develop new ways of working and implement them using a project management/ Continuous Improvement approach
• Ability to engage with a variety of customers and stakeholders to tailor products to suit their needs.
• Able to coach and mentor others
• Ability to work with a variety of people and build effective relationships
• Promote cross-regime working within the department and promote a culture of ‘one team’
