We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Permitting Officer to join our Permitting teams in Nottingham.

You’ll determine applications for Installations environmental permits for a range of sectors, ensuring decisions are made on sound technical grounds, within the required timeframes and ensuring the appropriate standards are met in accordance with Environment Agency policies and procedures. You will be expected to provide support to other team members.

You’ll need to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external partners, representing the National Permitting Service and the Environment Agency.
You’ll be joining one of the dynamic Nottingham Installations teams, which deal with a range of sectors, providing a great opportunity to further your career. With a real mix of experience and expertise, we support each other to deliver high quality permits.

We determine permit applications for installations submitted to the Environment Agency. The National Permitting Service helps deliver the Environment Agency’s permitting and regulatory responsibilities. We enable businesses to operate whilst protecting the environment.
Essential:

• Degree (or equivalent).
• Technical knowledge of process industry sectors e.g. chemicals, incineration, refineries, metals, combustion, landfill, waste treatment.
• Ability to assess risk and make risk based decisions
• Management of a varied portfolio of work to deliver within tight and conflicting deadlines
• Ability to work with others.
• Ability to make sound and timely decisions.
• Management of large amounts of technical information.
• Planning skills.

Desirable:

• Membership of a relevant institute or Practising Environmental Regulator (or working towards this).
